First Year Admissions

Incoming college first-year applicants should apply midway through their senior year of high school. 

Admission to Honors is highly competitive and involves a holistic review of each applicant. Students in Honors typically are in the top 10% of their class or have an ACT of 30 or an SAT of 1380.

Application Checklist Incoming First Year Students

  • Apply online to Cleveland State University and indicate your interest in applying to the Mandel Honors College.
  • You will subsequently be prompted to submit the following supplemental materials:
    • An application essay (prompt will be provided). 
    • Two letters of reference are required. Applicants are encouraged to seek letters from reviewers able to comment on the student’s ability to complete honors-level work in their major.

Application Deadline: January 15th

Cleveland State University Honors Program does not interview prospective students. The college is however willing to meet with prospective students to give them an overview of the program and answer questions. You can set up an appointment by calling 216-687-5559.

Note:

  • Applicants to Mandel Honors College must be pursuing their first bachelor's degree. Students who already hold a bachelor's degree are ineligible for consideration.
  • Mandel Honors College only admits students to programs once per year for Fall semester.
